Delivering on the 2020 Comprehensive Plan: Enhancing Pedestrian Safety and Mobility
04/04/2025

As Jersey Village continues to move forward, the City remains committed to delivering on the priorities outlined in the 2020 Comprehensive Plan. One of the key recommendations from the plan was to improve pedestrian mobility across the community by identifying corridor deficiencies and prioritizing improvements in areas with the greatest need—particularly near schools and transit stops.

Thanks to grant funding through the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Action Plan, the City is fulfilling the recommendation to conduct a corridor-level mobility study for all transportation modes. This planning effort will help identify critical safety issues, prioritize improvements, and provide a foundation for future infrastructure investments. Most importantly, it positions Jersey Village to compete for additional federal and state grants aimed at making our streets safer for everyone—whether they walk, bike, drive, or use public transportation.

A great example of this vision in action is the Congo Lane Reconstruction Project. Congo Lane is a key corridor that connects residents to Jersey Village High School and Post Elementary School. With this reconstruction, the roadway was widened and sidewalks were improved, making it a safer and more accessible route for students and families. These improvements are directly aligned with the Comprehensive Plan’s call to prioritize safe routes to schools and improve pedestrian infrastructure in high-traffic areas.

As we continue to implement the SS4A Plan, our community will have more opportunities to pursue funding for additional safety improvements—further turning the vision of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan into a reality. These projects reflect our commitment to a safer, more connected Jersey Village for all.
