Jersey Village Pool Referendum on the November Ballot
10/07/2024

This November, residents of Jersey Village will have the opportunity to vote on a referendum for a $10,100,000 bond to fund the construction of a new pool complex. While the final design is not yet determined, and the project costs will not be known until the project is procured in accordance with state law, the bond amount was set based on the recommendation from the Bond Committee. The committee worked closely with Counsilman-Hunsaker to develop a plan for the new facility.

How the Estimate Was Formed

The pool complex project estimate was developed by Counsilman-Hunsaker, an industry leader in aquatic design and consulting, with over 50 years of experience. The estimated cost of $10,100,000 is based on a detailed breakdown that includes the construction of support spaces, an outdoor aquatic center, and site improvements.

Here's a closer look at how these numbers were calculated:

  • Support Spaces: 4,776 square feet, estimated at $2,261,644. This includes areas such as a front desk, locker rooms, family changing rooms, and storage spaces, ensuring the facility is equipped to meet community needs.

  • Outdoor Pool Area: 18,932 square feet, estimated at $4,164,674. This section will feature a lap pool, leisure pool, and can accommodate spray features and small waterslides, shade structures, and more, creating a family-friendly space for all ages.

  • Site Construction: $1,185,413 is allocated for parking, landscaping, and utility connections, ensuring the surrounding infrastructure supports the new complex.

  • Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment: $143,000 has been designated for furnishing the facility with essential equipment.

  • Design Fees, Permitting, and Survey Work: $1,075,000 is set aside to cover these necessary elements.

Additionally, a contingency fund and cost escalation allowances are included to account for any unforeseen expenses during the project.
