In a move to enhance city operations and meet stated community goals, the Jersey Village City Council has authorized the City Manager to finalize a proposal for the acquisition of approximately 54,000 square feet of buildings on about 4.2 acres of land. This property, currently owned by the Champion Forest Baptist Church - Jersey Village campus, represents a significant opportunity for the city to keep operations on the north side of the US 290 and align with the future vision of the community.
The authorization comes after careful consideration and reflects the city’s commitment to pursuing properties that support long-term strategic goals, as voiced by the citizens of Jersey Village. Over the next 60 days, the city will conduct a thorough review of the property. This effort will include reviewing for structural soundness and general good condition to ensure the buildings align can be effectively renovated to meet the city’s needs.
In conjunction with this acquisition, the City Council has initiated steps to sell city-owned land located along Jones Road, on the opposite side of Highway 290.
The city will also look at the potential of relocating existing operations such as public works and parks and recreation from the south side of 290 to the north side of 290 as a part of this property.
The city is excited about the potential these developments bring to the community and is committed to transparency and engagement with the public as these projects move forward. Further updates on the progress of the property review and renovation plans, as well as details on the sale of the Jones Road property, will be provided as they become available.
