The City of Jersey Village is excited to announce the award of a $157,500 grant from the Texas General Land Office (GLO) to complete a Comprehensive Plan. This funding will enable us to strategically address future growth, housing, land use, and hazard mitigation in our community.
Key Components of the Comprehensive Plan
The Comprehensive Plan will encompass several critical studies and analyses, ensuring a thorough and forward-looking approach to community planning:
Identification of Local Hazard Risks: The plan will align with existing local hazard mitigation plans, if available, to identify and address local hazard risks effectively.
Population Study: This study will provide an estimate of the current population and project population growth over the next 20 years, ensuring that our planning efforts are grounded in realistic demographic data.
Housing Study: We will analyze the current housing stock, including the total number of units, the composition of single-family and multifamily units, and vacancy rates. Additionally, we will project the number of future housing units needed in the next ten years, detailing the expected composition of these units.
Land Use Plan: A critical component, the Land Use Plan will formalize long-term community goals into governing policies. This plan will describe the land use of every parcel within the jurisdiction and include a future land use map accounting for population changes.
In addition the Comprehensive Plan will also focus on community needs and desires such as enhancing parks and recreation opportunities, fostering economic development, and setting the stage for projects that citizens want to see completed over the next 5-10 years. By evaluating current city facilities and identifying areas for improvement, the plan aims to ensure that Jersey Village continues to offer high-quality facilities, such as parks and recreational spaces for all residents. Furthermore, the plan will outline strategies for economic growth, helping to attract new businesses and support existing ones. This holistic approach will enable us to prioritize and implement projects that align with the community’s aspirations, ensuring a vibrant and prosperous future for Jersey Village.
The Role of the Comprehensive Planning Committee
A vital part of this project is the Comprehensive Planning Committee. This committee will oversee the creation of the Comprehensive Plan and ultimately recommend it to the City Council for approval. Their work will ensure that the plan reflects the community's needs and aspirations.
