Garbage/Recycling Pick Up Delays

On March 26, 2021 the City received the following communication from WCA on garbage pickup.

Re: Winter Storm Aftermath

Dear Valued Customer:

In the aftermath of the unprecedented winter storm event that ravaged the Greater Houston area and most of the state of Texas, we are currently experiencing some unprecedented increases in collection volumes and we anticipate these increases through the upcoming weeks.  Homes, landscaping, and yards have been damaged by this event and as the weather has improved recently, generation of green/yard waste and bulky items has increased.  Because of this, we have seen a large increase in weekly volumes compared to what is normal this time of the year.  Because of this increase, we are also experiencing longer than normal wait times at our disposal and recycling facilities.

Over the course of the coming weeks, we anticipate the volumes to decrease back to normal, however you may experience a delay in the collection of your waste or recycling.  If your items are not collected on the normal service day, we strive to ensure that the items are collected the next business day.  We understand your frustration and appreciate your patience as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times.

As a reminder, the following items are not acceptable for normal bulky service:

  • Construction Debris
  • Sheetrock
  • Insulation
  • Metal Items
  • Fence Sections
  • Stone or Tile
  • Concrete
  • Dirt
  • Propane Tanks
  • Tires
